Something is wrong! This senario usually does not play out on an individual level, however, I have seen it happen on a corporate level several times. In fact recently I read about a company that implimented this free office suite and then Bill gave them a very nice discount on his office suite so they switched.
What is this great office suite? Well, I have blogged on it before but it is called OpenOffice. And yes, this is free. Reviews also indicate that OpenOffice is overall better than Microsoft (Bill’s software). And further more, OpenOffice can work with Microsoft (MS) documents directly, creating, opening, modifying, and saving them. Reports show that MS documents created in OpenOffice are not distinguishable from those made directly in MS Office.
OpenOffice documents standards are open standards and not proprietary so could be easily compatible with any other office product that wants to import/export this standard.
Finally, support is some of the best. And it is free!
